Gerry’s new release ‘Hello Walls’ was written by master songwriter and unique country artist Willie Nelson and will not disappoint dancers and radio listeners alike. When it comes to picking a new single Gerry Guthrie has a happy knack of recognising a good song hook. He knows people in general recognise a tempting melody, catchy rhythm and inviting lyrics, the type that is instantly remembered by them. ‘Hello Walls’ was recorded and produced with Wayne Thorose at Ballyrose Media.
Written in 1961, ‘Hello Walls’ tells the story of a man, who having parted with the love of his life, sits at home and talks to the walls, ceilings and windows. When Nelson wrote ‘Hello Walls’ he was strapped for cash, so he offered to sell the song for $500 to Faron Young, who released it as a single. Faron loaned Willie the money instead, so that Nelson could retain ownership of the song. It was Faron Young’s most popular recording. Willie released ‘Hello Walls’ on his first album in 1962. It was also recorded by a number of American artists including Johnny Tillotson and Ricky Nelson.
After the constraints of Lockdown, Gerry is looking forward to getting back performing with his band by the end of this year or early in 2022. In response to a lengthy backlog of enquiries about his well established and very popular ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends’ Dancing Weekend, Gerry secured dates for 2022 at the 4-star Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, from Friday 1th April to Sunday 3rd April 2022.
Such is the enormous popularity of the ‘Gerry Guthrie & Friends’ Dancing Weekend, the 2022 event was on sale a very short time when the hotel package sold out. However, people can still attend any of the three shows, tickets will be available at the door, depeding on public health guidance at the time.
Gerry and the band cannot wait to get back on the road again. There is no mistaking how much they have missed the live audiences and sharing the uplifting energy of great nights of country music with friends and fans nationwide.
